The Little Lilypad is a lifestyle blog mostly written by a mum to two beautiful, cheeky and entertaining daughters. It is sometimes written by the Man on the Pad or by one of our baby bloggers. Occasionally we accept guest posts too. There is frequently talk of sustainable living, saving money, lifestyle and travel. It is hopefully helpful, sometimes funny and always honest.

  1. Dear Daughter,

Once upon a time when Autumn fell and cast its orange and yellow spell,

I would wrap up warm and go for a walk, a chance to reflect without the need to talk,

But now as Autumn leaves fall, you want to kick them like a ball,

You want to jump and scream and shout, without a care if anyone's about,

I now wrap you up warm as you go outside, watching you laugh I am filled with pride,

I see your character and confidence grow, as the autumn will turn to winter snow,

I want you to spread your wings and fly but I dont want to simply be a passer by,

I want to share your highs and lows, we all know how the story goes,

I want to be the mum who knows it all but I will always be there to catch you if you fall,

Fall from height or fall from grace, my arms will always be a safe place,

As you grow older I dont need time to reflect,

Because you are my daughter, my angel, you are perfect.

  2. Dear Santa

I’ve been an especially good girl throughout the year,

so have written my Christmas list for you here:

    • Perfume (who doesnt want to smell nice)
    • Socks (to stop me pinching my OH's)
    • Theatre tickets (not sure the elves can make those though)
    • Bath bombs (because my eldest daughter pinches mine)
    • French manicure set (as I never have time to go to a beautician)
    • A silent night ( I realise this maybe an ask too far!)

This year I’m part of a group of bloggers who will be Secret Santas for each other. All are spending is £5 each, you are allocated another blogger to buy for and hopefully you will find inspiration on their blog, they might even have written their own Dear Santa list!

If you would like to take part then tweet @suburban1mummy or Facebook and she will add you to the list!

There are over 50 lovely bloggers taking part so far!

  3. Cancer.

Its not a word that needs any explanation.

I had plans this evening to write a heartfelt blog post in support of the Stand Up to Cancer campaign but I cant. Cancer affects everyone in different ways and I am compelled to sit, watch and support the amazing people and families, rather than try and articulate an inspiring blog post.

If you can spare £5 or £10, text FIVE or TEN to 70404 or you can donate at the Stand Up to Cancer site here.

Good night, hold your families tight xx

  4. Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall

All the Kings horses and all the Kings men

    Couldnt put Humpty together again.

Thats how is goes isnt it? Well apparently not if you go to a Water Babies class!

Mum, aka Nanny came back from the Water Babies class today still singing the nursery rhyme and I had to ask how Humpty Dumpty managed to fit into a baby's swimming lesson. Apparently the little ones are sat on the side and when Humpty "falls" into the water they go! (well you learn something every day).

Nanny is really embracing the lessons now and the little one loves them (especially since getting her wet suit), she still dithers as she is sat on the side and is absolutely happiest when in the water. Reassuringly, all of the Water Babies pools are heated to 30° or above, so I cant say I blame her for wanting to be in the water rather than out of it!

I love that she has no fear of being "dunked" underneath and happily did a "free" swim today. I dont love so much that I am not the one to share this with her (but thats just me being selfish) and Nanny is already asking if we are going to do the next course. She looks forward to the weekly classes and I am not sure if it is Nanny or the little one who is enjoying the classes more.

Nanny now needs swim goggles to watch the little one under water and my eldest daughter is helping her get used to people wearing goggles by using hers EVERY bathtime. She looks a little bit like a pink fly but the little one thinks its hilarious, although not so sure Nanny would if I got her a bright pink pair!
