The Little Lilypad is a lifestyle blog mostly written by a mum to two beautiful, cheeky and entertaining daughters. It is sometimes written by the Man on the Pad or by one of our baby bloggers. Occasionally we accept guest posts too. There is frequently talk of sustainable living, saving money, lifestyle and travel. It is hopefully helpful, sometimes funny and always honest.

Apart from years of having to clean up baby-sick, and then dog-sick and other nasty things off the carpets, another disaster still stands out in my mind : ) I remember we had had new carpet laid in our new house at the same time as the road was resurfaced. The children ran in the house with tar stuck to their shoes right over that lovely new carpet1 I have to admit that I sat down and wept!

As a mother of a toddler with a cream carpet (put in whilst I was pregnant for some inexplicable reason!) I should have expected my toddler to ruin it. Nope, instead it was me, doing the ironing in front of the tv one night as instead of putting the hot iron on the end of the ironing board, it slipped and went onto the carpet! For some reason I was in shock and stared at it in disbelief on the floor, before hubby shouted - pick it up! Alas it was too late and we have been left with an iron shaped singe on the carpet. I would usually try to cover it with a rug but it is in such an awkward position the rug would look odd positioned over it, so in the middle of the carpet it stays!

What can I say after 10 years of 2 children, 4 cats and a clumsy manner myself, there is no carpet anymore, just patches of wear and tea stains & red wine. The worst was a full large glass of red spilling. Luckily on that occasion for the carpet it nearly all fell on my laptop which is now broken as a result. Shame it didnt spill on the carpet. If it did go on the carpet it would have joined the permanent stains and wear up and would have made at least that half of the carpet someone toned together!
